Crock Pot Pulled Pork

Not everybody has a smoker, so here is a kitchen version of pulled pork from Pitmaster Dan Hixon of 3 Eyz BBQ (http://www.3eyzbbq.com/).

Again, trying to take a bit of the “fear of BBQ” out of the picture. This recipe is great for home use and lets those without any grilling/smoking equipment or experience try their hands at making pulled pork. I’ll bet that your friends will not believe you that the entire meal was cooked without lighting a match!

Smokeless Ribs

Lets be honest here, most everyone loves good ribs, but not everyone has a smoker. Here is a way to prepare ribs that anyone can do in the home kitchen then finish out on the grill. They have good flavor, but best of all, they are tender. Additionally, the ribs can be cooked in advance of your planed dinner, frozen, then thawed and finished on the grill before serving. This feature makes this dish great for tailgating or taking over to the neighbor’s house on Friday night. Cook these right, and your friends will think you know what you are doing, even if you really don’t.

Flat Iron Steak

A flat iron steak is best when served rare to medium rare. For this meal, it is best to get the potatoes and veggies done before grilling the steak. Have the wine poured, the table set and ready to go. After resting, slice and serve the steak, pouring any residual juices that accumulate on the cutting board back over the sliced meat.

BBQ Bob’s Backyard Spare Ribs

By BBQ Bob Trudnak from The BBQ Guru

The BBQ Guru is one of our sponsors; BBQ Bob Trudnak is the pit master for The BBQ Guru competition cooking team. They compete at contests all over the country and have done quite well, winning many awards including several Reserve and Grand Championships. Bob has reluctantly, (just kidding), agreed to part with one of his favorite rib recipes. A rub made with Dizzy Pig Swap Venom adds a welcomed kick to this crowd pleasing entree. For a little more ‘kicked up version’, cut back on the amount of brown sugar added to the rub.

She makes many personal appearances doing grilling, cooking and smoking demonstrations on both sides of the border. Lucky for us, she as agreed to share one of her favorite recipes, a stuffed chicken dish that is sure to please.  Danielle says this recipe can me adjusted, varied, and added to, in order to satisfy everyone at the table. Thanks Diva!

Sausage Pie

By Don Wooten, Off the Hoof BBQ

Don Wooten of Off the Hoof BBQ in Elkton MD was kind enough to share a few recipes with me. Don’s great grandmother (Cora Beckman) developed this recipe for a contest they had during the World War II for one pot meals. He tells me she won a $50 Savings Bond for the hamburger pie recipe. Don tried it with sausage for the New Holland Summer Fest BBQ contest 3 years ago and finished in the top 10. I think that is a great story. He tells me it works better with hamburger because good hamburger is not as greasy as sausage. I would suggest a fairly lean mix of ground beef to try and cut down on the accumulated grease. Thanks to Don and his Great Grandmother for sharing. tasty too!

Pulled Pork BBQ

In my humble opinion, Pork BBQ is the easiest of the 4 KCBS meats to cook for the beginner BBQ cook. Now, please don’t think that by that statement, I mean that cooking competition pork is by any means easy, its not. As a matter of fact, pork has been the most difficult meat for me to cook properly at a contest, our anchor, so to speak. But what I can tell you is, it sure does eat good, enjoy!

Another Pulled Pork BBQ Recipe

Here is a very simple recipe for cooking pulled pork. I offer a few variations that might help remove any inhibitions you may have before attempting to cook your first butt. Again, anything that has as one of its first steps, rub your butt, is sure to be a good time. Get out and give it a try, you’ll be glad you did.
